As a complimentary service to the industry and collectors worldwide, we have provided pricing information to several leading antique and collectible publishers of price guides.
Appraisals
Except in special cases, and unless you plan to sell your collectibles to us, we do not furnish free pricing information. We do prepare official, written appraisals for insurance and other personal and legal purposes. When the products have been or are being purchased from Don's Collectibles, documentation is more readily available.
Fees
For written appraisals, our minimum starting fee is $100. plus return shipping with payment in advance. The fee is increased in increments of $25, depending on the number of items involved and the projected time it will take to complete the work. A reasonable estimate can be determined by knowing we charge $60-80, per hour for RESTORATION SERVICES. Details regarding having restorations done are available in a separate form.
If you have NOT purchased your collectibles from us, and unless you plan to ship the collectibles to us for examination, we can only make this appraisal with a disclaimer regarding their condition. In the latter cases ,we provide current retail prices based on the current market values; however, buyers and sellers must be aware of the vulnerability naturally inherent in the antique and collectible field. This problem is especially critical since Bossons permanently closed their operations as of December 1996.
Price Lists
We do not and have never published a price list for Bossons. Reasons are obvious when one considers the limited and high quality productions from Bossons over the years. To our knowledge, detailed records of numbers produced and released to the market are sketchy. Generally, those Bossons produced in the early years from 1943 to 1958 are extremely rare, even some of the many plaques are coveted. The 1960's to 70's saw many popular items being released and the ever popular Dickens Characters Wall Masks are an example. With varying interest, most all of Fred Wright's sculptured works are extremely popular and command prices ranging from several hundred to several thousand dollars.
The animal and wild life studies have never been as popular as the character wall masks to both collectors and the general public. Finally, higher prices now are being paid for Bossons produced in the latter years, 1985-96, when Bossons closed.
Finally, we have been pleased to contribute both written commentary and a limited number of prices for Bossons in the Schroeder's Antiques and Collectibles Price Guides, 1995 to the present. Both buyers and sellers be reminded again; THESE PRICES ARE FOR MINT/PERFECT CONDITION BOSSONS. Any imperfections from normal soil to cigarette smoke, and surface damages to amateur paint touch ups, decrease the values by 50 to 80%. Varnished or shellacked Bossons (not applied at the factory) decrease these values by almost 100%.
Purchasing
Should you wish to sell to us, we may be interested in purchasing some or all of your listed items, and generally pay wholesale prices, depending on the condition and our stock needs at that time.
1. If you plan to sell your collectibles to us, we will need you to provide your asking price(s) or a minimum you will accept for your items.
2. With prior agreement, we also ask that you forward your collectibles to us for final inspection and approval regarding the condition. If the condition is as stated, we will then forward payment to you. When the condition is not as expected/explained in our communications, we maintain the option of returning your properties to you with no further obligation to Don's Collectibles (see item 3 following).
3. When obtaining an official appraisal, having restorations completed,we request that you forward an advance deposit of $25. to be applied to the return shipping costs of your collectibles. (note: foreign shipments will be the actual shipping costs).
